What is Law In Kansas City doing in light of the COVID-19 recommendations?
The safety of our clients, staff, and families is important to us.
Therefore, starting Monday, March 23, 2020, we have the following policies in place...
Drop-Ins: We will not be accommodating drop-ins from clients until further notice.
Getting us documents: If you need to drop off documents, you can either leave them in the mailbox outside the office, or the office doors may be open and you can come in and drop stuff off at the front counter. You are also welcome to email us documents so long as they do not have Social Security numbers or other sensitive information listed. If you do need to provide this type of information, email our office and we will let you know the alternative to provide us documents including a link on where to go to get them to us.
Appointments: Most appointments will be by a video conference on Zoom or telephone appointments. You will be notified the specifics on this option depending on your comfort level and technology level. We may be making some exceptions (but they will be limited). :
Signing Documents: We will be utilizing technology to make signing documents super easy for you.
Courts: Right now the Courts are basically closed to in person hearings other than they can still process Orders of Protection and certain criminal arraignments, etc. Many things which the court is required to continue will be held by Video Conferencing. Right now the Court is rotating their staff so there is still work being done. This Order from the Supreme Court goes through the beginning of April; however, many Courts have already extended it to middle of May before we can set hearings.
Filing new cases and other documents with the Court: This has not changed. We are able to file new cases, documents, and otherwise do the normal range of things with the court. There have been some small disruptions; however, this is business as usual at the moment. The Court is continuing cases without need for the attorneys to file a Motion for Continuance. As we receive notices on your case, we will forward the individual information to you.
Deadlines: Deadlines to file responsive pleadings, discovery, and other deadlines per Civil Procedure have not changed. Therefore, you need to keep in contact with your attorney and cooperate with our office to make sure we meet required deadlines.
Contact Us: It is best to email our office over the next few weeks rather than calling. Both Sherry and I have access to our desktop and email even if we are not in the office. Please be patient as we will respond to your needs based on level of importance... emergencies obviously first.
Announcements: If we do have any announcements, you can find them on our Facebook Page, Twitter, and Instagram.
Be assured that we have this under control!
We have been working on online options for more than
2 years and we are ready to go 100% virtual if need be.
Even if everyone is ordered to stay home,
our law office will go on and there will be little disruption for us.
Use this as an opportunity...
Spend more time with people important to you: Do fun things at home with your family and use Google Hangouts to keep in touch with others. Don't feel isolated!
Honey Do List/ Spring Cleaning: Now is a great time to get those projects done you know you need to do!
Level Up: Wheather it is improving your own business, your abilities as a valued employee, or to improve your marriage and parenting skills, down time can be a blessing. Work out at home. Improve your health. There is tons you can do to improve your life and look back and tell your grandchildren you rocked COVID-19!
Work with us virtually...
Move your case along faster: Now that you are home, you have time to do all the homework we give you. Let's be ready to finish your case as soon as the Court's are open.
Convenient: Save time from taking off work by using virtual conferences! This will be a great option moving forward past COVID-19!
No Judgment Zone: Just like Planet Fitness... this will be a no judgment zone for bad hair days, being in sweats, and morning breath. Just grab a cup of coffee, pop, or glass of water and let's chat!
