FIRST, call us at (816) 479-2700 or email us at bankruptcy@lawinkc.com to make an appointment. If you have a foreclosure, repossession, lawsuit, garnishment or any other emergency, please state this in your email and let us know the date of foreclosure or your next court date. Do not wait until the last minute or we may not be able to help you! You will be required to take a credit counseling course 24 hours prior to filing and therefore we cannot help you with foreclosures if you do not contact us at least three business days before the date set for foreclosure. If you have a lawsuit pending, the same is true. We may be able to continue the case but cannot guarantee it. Therefore, make your appointment as soon as possible.

Note: The Missouri Bar Disciplinary Counsel requires all Missouri lawyers to notify all recipients of e-mail that (1) e-mail communication is not a secure method of communication; (2) any e-mail that is sent to you or by you may be copied and held by various computers it passes through as it goes from me to you or vice versa; (3) persons not participating in our communication may intercept our communications by improperly gaining access to your computer or my computer or even some computer unconnected to either of us which the e-mail passed through.

SECOND, complete as much of the online intake questionnaire as possible. Go to www.stopmybills.com and put in the password of lawinkc. The form is easy to use. If you have a question, do your best to answer it and talk to your attorney about the answer at your first appointment. If you do not want to type in all your creditors, you can pay a fee to download them from your credit report.

THIRD, get a free copy of your credit report. Go to www.annualcreditreport.com. You will need to have personal information available as they will ask questions to verify your identity.

FOURTH, you will need to gather a variety of information. Click on the link to get a list of documents to bring to your appointment: Documents to Provide to Attorney. You may not be able to have all this information prior to your first appointment and that is ok. Do your best to put together as much as possible. PLEASE BRING COPIES OF DOCUMENTS AND NOT ORIGINALS unless the "Documents to Provide to Attorney" requests you to do so.

FIFTH, if you have an emergency filing due to foreclosure, lawsuit, garnishment, repossession, set up an appointment to do your credit counseling. Click the following link for a list of agencies approved by the United States Trustee: Credit Counseling Agencies. Many of these agencies can do counseling over the phone, Internet or in person. If you would like a recommendation, call the office and we will help you pick an agency.

If you really want to get a head start, you can download the Take Home Worksheet and fill it out as well.

You may feel overwhelmed by all the information needed. Do the best you can. Remember your goal: to take back control of your life and make a fresh start. You can do it and we will help you as much as possible.
